Unit of Regenerative Therapy

Mission

The Unit of Regenerative Therapy (UTR) under the direction of Prof. Lee Ann Laurent-Applegate coordinates all research projects for the Service of Plastic and Hand Surgery.

Our team is specialized in tissue engineering for skin regeneration and musculoskeletal tissues. The UTR is strongly linked with the clinical activities of the Service of Plastic and Hand Surgery on a day-to-day basis and is one of the pioneers in translational research in the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV).

In addition, our Unit is responsible for the quality of the different cellular therapy treatments proposed by the Department of Musculoskeletal Medicine (DAL), with respect to the new regulations (SwissMedic) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This Unit is also responsible for the DAL Biobank.

Collaborations

The UTR is implicated in various research projects in the DAL with the Services of Orthepedics and Traumatology, Sports Medicine, Rheumatology and the Operational Unit of the DAL. We have multiple other collaborations within the CHUV such as Pediatric Surgery, SMIA, Cell Production Center, Institute of Labor & Health among others.

We work also with National University Institutes and associated Hospitaly such as the Universities of Geneva, Zurich and Bern, and the Federal Institutes of Technology in both Lausanne and Zurich. We have International collaborations with Aalborg University (Denmark), University of Albert Ludwig (Germany) University of Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy), University of Montpellier (France), Lund University (Sweden), University of Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), Indiana University (USA), Industrial Technology Research Insititute & Burn Centers (Taiwan) and Zheijang University & School of Medicine (China).

Education and teaching

Finally, for preparing academic achievement, we have a wide-range of teaching and formation possibilities. Since we have teaching activities with Medical Doctors, Ph.D. students in Engineering, Biology and Pharmacy, Masters Students in Medicine, Biology and Pharmacy, Lawyers, LabTechnicians, and High School Students, these interactions permit high interdisciplinary interest in our group.
