Assisted Hatching

Assisted hatching is a technique used mainly following several implantation failures, when a defect of the embryo hatching is suspected. This defect, which is impossible to anticipate, is characterized by the incapacity of the embryo to break its envelope, the zona pellucida, and therefore the inability to reach the uterine mucosa and implant. Creating a hole in the zona pellucida using a microscopic laser beam can artificially facilitate the hatching of the embryo.

Indication for assisted hatching will be discussed with your doctor. The technique requires taking medication (antibiotic and corticoid) for a few days before and after the transfer.

Indications: repeated implantation failures following the transfer of good quality embryos, thick zona pellucida, hard zona pellucida
