Intra-uterine insemination by sperm donor (DI) Insemination with donor sperm is done with spontaneous- or stimulated cycle. It is determined in the same way than IUI. The sperm, which is kept at –196°C, is thawed 90 minutes before the insemination and has to undergo identical preparation processes than those referred to in IUI. The donor is chosen by your doctor at UMR in such a way as to correspond to the extent possible, to the male partner’s characteristics. Elements being considered are: the height, colour of the eye, hair and skin, as well as the blood group. The frozen sperm has to go in quarantine, which ensures that the donor is no carrier of sexually transmissible infections, such as: HIV, hepatitis B and C and cytomegalovirus. Indications: azoospermia (absence of spermatozoa) in the ejaculated sperm and in the testicle biopsies, failure of other treatments against male infertility (ICSI), risk of transmissible decease.
