RESEARCH PROJECT IN POSSIBLE ROLE OF SECRETORY IgA
In this research project, we are evaluating the role of SIgA in maintaining homeostasis toward the intestinal commensal flora. Indeed, by using laser scanning confocal microscopy, we have shown that the coating of Lactobacillus rhamnosus (a commensal bacteria strain) with SIgA, promotes limited entry into Peyer’s patches. We have also unraveled that this phenomenon involves the Microfold cells present in the follicle-associated epithelium of Peyer’s patches and known to transport particulate antigens from the lumen. We have also shown that SIgA-based immune complexes are engulfed by dendritic cells present in Peyer’s patches and are found latter in the draining mesenteric lymph nodes.
