RESEARCH PROJECT IN SC STRUCTURE

The three-dimensional structure of IgA alone or in association with its Fca receptor has been obtained over the past years. Similarly, the crystal structure of domain I of secretory component (SC) has been solved to a resolution of 1.9 Å. However, no model exists as to the structure of the whole SC molecule. We have now determined in the frame of this research project the solution folding of free recombinant human SC, which shows a compact assembly that can explain the selective association with polymeric IgA as compared to monomeric IgA.
