ESCAR (ESCMID Study Group for Coxiella, Anaplasma, Rickettsia and Bartonella)

ESCAR encourages basic and applied research in the field of rickettsiology and related diseases due to intracellular bacteria. ESCAR has currently 271 members (medical doctors, veterinarians, microbiologists, ….) from many different countries. Bacterial diseases studied include rickettsiosis, bartonellosis, ehrlichosis, and coxiellosis as well as emerging infectious diseases due to novel intracellular bacteria (i.e. Chlamydia-related bacteria).

ESCAR is the organizer of the triennal International meeting on Rickettsiae and Rickettsial diseases, as well as educational workshops or specific sessions during the annual ESCMID meeting. Moreover, ESCAR intends to organize a postgraduate education course in 2010 (Amel Letaief, Sousse, Tunisia). ESCAR activities and composition of ESCAR committee are available on the ESCMID website.
