Necker CHUV Joint Venture for the optimization of CT pediatric protocols (NCJV)
Who are we?
The Necker CHUV Joint Venture (NCJV) for the optimization of pediatric CT protocols is the name of a group of radiologists and medical physicists working to find a balance between radiological risk and relevant diagnostic information. For many years, reducing radiation dose without affecting diagnostic image quality has been one of the main challenges for CT scanner manufacturers and medical physicists. However, a tremendous amount of work still remains to be done to define “diagnostic” image quality. At the moment, optimization strategies remain focused on dose aspects rather than the actual diagnostic information itself. This has already managed to reduce the dispersion of the practice but we are convinced that we are still far from the state of the art.
Because children are among one of the most sensitive populations to ionizing radiation, special care in the development of pediatric CT protocols is required.
Through the NCJV, radiologists and physicists work together to access new CT algorithms and develop the best CT pediatric protocols.
The Necker Hospital and the University Hospital of Lausanne have a long history of successful collaborations in medical research and education.
The Hôpital Necker - Enfants Malades (Necker Hospital - Hospital for sick children) founded in 1778 is the world's oldest pediatric hospital. It is currently attached to the “Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Paris”, which is the public hospital system of the city of Paris (France) and its suburbs. This system employs more than 90,000 people in 44 hospitals.
The University Hospital Center of Lausanne (CHUV) is one of the five university hospitals in Switzerland and the biggest in the state of Vaud. It is linked to the faculty of biology and medicine at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). The CHUV has its own institute of radiation physics (IRA), which is composed of several research groups including a medical imaging group and a group for radiation protection.
