Dr Patrick Omoumi

Biography

Dr Patrick Omoumi graduated from Paris Medical School and specialized in Radiology. After two fellowships in world-renowned musculoskeletal centers (St Luc University Hospital in 2008 and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2009), he joined the team of musculoskeletal imaging at St Luc University Hospital as a staff radiologist. Since 2013, he has been at the head of the musculoskeletal unit of the Radiology department of Lausanne University Hospital.

Research

Both at UCSD and Brussels, he worked on the development and validation of new imaging techniques for the evaluation of the internal derangement of the joints. These included advanced MRI techniques such as compositional and ultrashort TE imaging to study articular structures, including cartilage, menisci and ligaments. Dr Omoumi is particularly interested in understanding the pathological processes involved in osteoarthritis (OA) – the subject of the PhD he completed in 2015. His research in this field has shown that cartilage in preserved areas of the knee is thicker in OA compared to non-OA patients. These findings have opened new perspectives in the understanding of the potential reparative processes involved in OA. He is pursuing his activities in this direction with the Swiss Biomotion Lab.

Publication

Dr Patrick Omoumi has authored over 45 papers in peer-reviewed journals, more than 100 presentations at international conferences, and 22 book chapters and monographs. He has given over 35 invited lectures, in 7 countries.
