Biography

Prof. Patrick Omoumi graduated from Sorbonne University Medical School in Paris, and specialized in Radiology. After two fellowships in world-renowned musculoskeletal centers (St Luc University Hospital, Brussels in 2008 and the University of California, San Diego in 2009), he joined the team of musculoskeletal imaging at St Luc University Hospital as a staff radiologist, where he also completed his PhD. Since 2013, he has been the head of musculoskeletal imaging at Lausanne University Hospital. In 2021, he was appointed Associate Professor at the University of Lausanne.

Research

Patrick Omoumi’s activities include the development and validation of quantitative MRI and CT techniques for the imaging of the musculoskeletal system, and the application of those for the understanding of the pathophysiology of disease, with a special focus on osteoarthritis. He is currently working on establishing new integrated models of osteoarthritis at the Swiss Biomotion Lab.

His clinical research activities focus on the imaging of bone marrow, musculoskeletal tumors, rheumatological disorders, as well as for imaging informatics, including AI applications in radiology.

Patrick Omoumi is also strongly engaged in educational activities. He has given over 100 invited lectures worldwide, and authored 35 book chapters.

In 2022, he was awarded the prestigious President’s Medal from the International Skeletal Society, which recognizes researchers under 45 with outstanding scientific achievements on an international level.
