As part of a university hospital, our department's academic vision is to advance knowledge and bring innovation to the healthcare system through research and training in biomedical imaging.

To achieve this, the department has a research unit comprising 6 labs and approximately 60 scientific collaborators. Many radiologists also contribute to the academic life of the department with their research projects. Together, these 80 to 100 people make up a highly dynamic, interdisciplinary research community in the field of biomedical imaging, active in clinical research, fundamental medical questions and the development of innovative technologies. Image reconstruction techniques, artificial intelligence for diagnostic support, the human-machine interface, interventional radiology and the development of new biomarkers are some of our flagship research topics.

Our team of researchers is part of an international academic network with numerous scientific collaborations around the world. Most of our work is funded by competitive grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation, European and American agencies. Our numerous research works (> 100 / year) are published in specialized journals and presented at international conferences.

The training of young researchers is very important to us, and we supervise and propose numerous theses in medicine (MD) and science (PhD).
