The Chair of Geriatric Palliative Care’s mission is to promote geriatric palliative care as an academic discipline, integrating the proven expertise of its two component disciplines, geriatrics and palliative care.
Today, due to the aging population, many people live with chronic diseases, combinations of several diseases (known as polymorbidity) and neurocognitive diseases, including dementia. These are profoundly transforming the end of life and the experience of death. The goals of the Chair are to conduct research projects on these issues, to train health professionals, and to increase awareness of these issues on both a political and more broadly societal level. The aim is to improve the experience of elderly people in their final stages of life and their loved ones.
