The Chair combines expertise in geriatrics and palliative care.
Chair of Geriatric Palliative Care’s mission is to promote geriatric palliative care as an academic field in order to improve the lived experience of seniors at the end of life and their loved ones.
Geriatric palliative care is not a new specialty but reflects the combined expertise of geriatrics and palliative care. The Chair works very closely with the two CHUV departments in question, particular for clinical projects.
Since May 1, 2016, the Chair has been led by Prof. Ralf Jox, palliativist, neurologist and ethicist, and Dr. Eve Rubli Truchard, internist and geriatrician.
The Chair was created under the impetus of Prof. Gian Domenico Borasio, Head of the Palliative and Support Care Service, and Prof. Christophe Bula, Head of the Geriatrics and Geriatric Rehabilitation Service. It is financed by the CHUV as well as by donations from private foundations, including the Leenaards Foundation.
An academic chair dedicated to these issues is a new and innovative approach, showing the importance that the University of Lausanne, and the Faculty of Biology and Medicine in particular, devote to this future challenge.
