Advancing Mesothelioma Treatment with AI-Enabled Precision Oncology

Université de Lausanne

In this project, funded by Swiss Cancer Research, we aim at integrating different types of data—such as tissue images and molecular profiles—to gain a comprehensive view of the tumor microenvironment (TME), the cells and structures which surround the tumor and influence its growth and response to treatment.

Our project focuses on mesothelioma, a rare cancer for which there is currently no effective treatment.

The research pursues three main objectives:

  • Develop AI tools to integrate and predict outcomes from diverse data in order to better understand tumor behavior
  • Discover new mechanisms within the TME that influence cancer progression or treatment response
  • Apply our AI framework to a study of 200 mesothelioma patients to understand variability in their responses

By providing cutting-edge AI technologies to deepen our understanding of the TME, this project paves the way for personalized cancer therapies and offer new hope to patients with mesothelioma.
