ESGMAC

Objectives and missions

The ESCMID Study Group for Mycoplasma and Chlamydia Infections (ESGMAC) is a group of physicians and scientists whose aim is to study and understand the clinical presentation and epidemiology (including the development of antimicrobial resistance) of infections caused by Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma, Chlamydia, and Chlamydophila in humans, as well as to improve diagnosis, treatment, control, and prevention. To achieve this, ESGMAC promotes and supports international research activities, education, training, and best medical practices.

In addition, ESGMAC complements and strengthens activities with relevant international scientific societies, such as the International Organization for Mycoplasmology (IOM), the European Society for Chlamydia Research (ESCR), and the European Society of Chlamydioses, Coxiellosis, Anaplasmosis, Rickettsioses, and Bartonellosis (ESCCAR). The IOM is a non-profit scientific society that aims to promote international cooperative studies on mycoplasmas and mycoplasmal diseases (in humans, animals, and plants) and to disseminate knowledge about their characteristics, effects, transmission, and control. The ESCR and ESCCAR are two European organizations that seek to advance knowledge on Chlamydia and other intracellular pathogens.
