SPEARHEAD Project

SPEARHEAD is an acronym for “Swiss PandEmic & Antimicrobial Resistance Health Economy Awareness Detect”

Spearhead aimed to tackle the silent pandemic of antimicrobial resistance by developing innovative multidisciplinary research-based digital solutions that addresses stewardship and prevention.

Spearhead leveraged big data, machine learning, rapid diagnostics and digital media to help doctors make quick and effective treatment choices, and patients and citizens to become more confident in the usage of antibiotics.

The consortium has been supported by Innosuisse program from 2024 to 2026 and included PIs from University of Basel (Julia Bielecki et al), University of Geneva (Angela Huttner), SUPSI (Serena Cangiano) and University of Lausanne (G Greub), as well as industrial partners: Novartis, WAAT, Resistell and Swiss Re.
