Arseny Sokolov

Following his studies, his doctorate in medicine at the University of Tübingen and his clinical and academic training in neurology in Munich, at the CHUV, Prof. Sokolov obtained a doctorate in clinical cognitive and social neuroscience at the University College London. Then, he continued his clinical and scientific career in the fields of neurotechnology, cognitive neurology and neurorehabilitation (University of California San Francisco). Prof Sokolov was appointed Deputy Director of the Neurorehabilitation Unit at the Inselspital in Berne in 2020, before taking over as Director of the Neuropsychology Unit at the CHUV in 2021, and the management of the Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation Departement ad interim in 2023.

He is a specialist in the assessment and management of cognitive and behavioural disorders associated with neurological diseases, with particular expertise in visual perception, high-level cognitive processes including social cognition, cognitive deficits associated with cerebellar lesions and socio-professional reintegration. Professor Sokolov also provides consultations in German, English and Russian.

His scientific work is based on a multimodal and interdisciplinary approach, exploring the cognitive, affective and social functions of the brain, and aims to develop innovative neurorehabilitation methods, using new technologies such as neuroimaging, serious video games and virtual reality.

As an associate professor, he teaches at Unil's Faculty of Biology and Medicine. He is also working closely with the Lavigny Institute on the development of the future University Service for Neurorehabilitation (SUN). Professor Sokolov is also a member of numerous consortia, committees and working groups, including the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation, the European Academy of Neurology, the Swiss neurorehabilitation society and the World Health Organisation aimed at implementing new approaches to neurorehabilitation.
