Elia Di Schiavi, PhD
Institute of Genetics and Biophysics "Adriano Buzzati Traverso" CNR, Naples, Italy
CNR Researcher
Basic Scientist
Dr. Elia Di Schiavi is interested in studying neuron development and degeneration in the invertebrate animal model Caenorhabditis elegans. He is also investigating the function of nematode homologs of human disease genes in collaboration with Human Geneticists. Among these genes he has focussed on kal-1, the homolog of the gene responsible of the X-linked Kallmann Syndrome. He aims to elucidate the molecular mechanism of kal-1 function and to identify genes interacting with kal-1 during epithelial morphogenesis and axon guidance. More recently he has become interested in the establishment and characterization of models of neurodegenerative diseases in C.elegans.
