Serge Nef, PhD
Department of Genetic Medicine & Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Switzerland
Associate Professor
Basic Scientist
Professor Nef's long-standing interest lies in the elucidation of the molecular mechanisms regulating gonadal differentiation and testicular function. Over the past years, his laboratory has developed cutting edge techniques in human and mouse genetics, to investigate the complex mechanisms of gonadal differentiation and testicular function. Their first axis of research investigate the roles of growth factors of the insulin/IGF family in mediating adrenal development, sex determination and testis size in mice. Their second axis relies on human genetics: we apply up-to-date genetic tools such as exome sequencing to a cohort of unresolved cases of patient suffering from disorders of sexual development (DSD) to reveal new genes and pathways involved in gonadal development.
